As you all know, the Canon 1.4x TC has a protruding front element which interferes with the rear element of most lenses.
It will hit the rear element of the N Makro-Sonnar 2,8/100 from infinity to 0.7m.
It will NOT hit from 0.7m to 0.32m.
There is a zone switch on the lens. When "ZONE" is selected instead of "FULL", the AF ranges from either infinity to 0.5m, or 0.5m to 0.32m. So, if you preset the lens to any distance under 0.5m, and set the switch of the lens to "ZONE", it will autofocus without ever hitting the rear element. However, we recommend turning the AF of the lens completely OFF. This is because the ZONE mode is implemented in software by the lens, and we do not trust a software solution to limit the AF range to work all of the time.
When I convert your N Makro-Sonnar 2,8/100 lens, the mount may either have 8 or 11 electrical contacts. If it has 11 contacts, it will multiply the focal length by 1.4 in the EXIF data when a TC 1.4x is used, and reduce the maximum aperture to f/4. Not all Makro-Sonnars can be equipped with the 11 pin connector - it depends on what shims I find inside.
Attached is an example of MS100 + TC 1.4x + full frame camera. If you have a cropped camera you will get an even tighter cropping.
