OK, this is not a Conurus specific question, but I thought this group would be the most technically learned of all to answer my question....
I just bought a Contax NX with 28-80 lens after selling my N1 and the other N lenses I had, just so I would have a little Contax autofocusing camera to have around. I picked up a used one that seems to be in great shape and everything tested out fine including the autofocus, which, while certainly not up to modern standards, worked fine even in macro mode. So I popped a roll of film in and no sooner had I gotten off a few frames the autofocus seemed to stop working. I can here the motor hunting back and forth but the focus does not perceivably shift and it never finds focus. If I switch to manual mode, it will indicate focus but it seems the autofocus function is malfunctioning. So my question is does this sound like a problem with the lens or the body? I'm assuming it's the lens but should I send the body in as well so the autofocus can be calibrated to the body?
Thanks in advance for your help,
John |

Hi John,
If the lens makes a whirling sound, but the distance scale and the focusing ring of the 28-80 does not turn or turn very very little, that means some internal part of the lens has worn out.
Contax Japan will be able to fix this issue. We are not an authorized repair facility, but if the problem is exactly as described above, we can fix it, too. _________________ I am a bird and I uncovered the E, EF and N-mount communication protocols! |

Thanks for that explanation Bo-Ming. It sounds exactly as you describe. I'm going to try to get it fixed here in the States but if I can't I'll get in touch.
