This might have limited appeal...
I'm an aerial photographer and practically everything I photograph is at least 1000' away. I would love to be able to simply tape my lenses to infinity and shoot away but there are a couple of problems.
First, most lenses today rack past infinity and while I could likely find a spot through testing there is always that tiny bit of uncertainty about getting it right. There is also the problem of focus shift in zoom lenses.
Because of the availability of smart adapters that pass through focus information, I was wondering if an "infinity switch" could be incorporated into the adapter that would set the lens focus at a certain distance. Really it could be set for 500 feet and depth of field could take care of the rest.
Again, limited appeal but there are a few aerial photographers out there. It actually might be more appealing if you could preselect the focus distance. Then a lot of street shooters might use this just as photographers used to set hyperfocal distance in the old days. For quick "from the hip" photography using a set distance and aperture and not having to worry about the focus delaying the shot.
Thanks for consideration. |
