|
|
Just thinking out loud here. Looking at the new compact micro-APS Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5 cameras. It looks to have an entirely electronic lens mount. It seems to me that adapter could be made for Canon EF lenses, and by extension conurus-converted Contax N lenses to work with full functionality on these Sony NEX cameras. Of course, you would have to work out the Sony NEX communication protocols, but it seems to me, if anyone had the time and the ability if could be done. What do you think? This could potentially be a big market -- there are a lot of people out there with Canon EF mount lenses out there, and the Sony NEX is nice and compact. It could be worthwhile. |

I have some good news to bring. This video shows our progress so far.
[edit: We showed a "proof-of-concept" on YouTube on March 12, 2011. We have decided to take down this video because now that the actual product has shipped on January 18, 2012, there is no point showing the crude prototype any more. We will create and show a video of the final product on YouTube soon.] _________________ I am a bird and I uncovered the E, EF and N-mount communication protocols!

Do you have any plan for a Contax N to Sony Nex adaptor?
It's technically feasible with your skills! |

We are still working on it. We have no date or pricing yet. We will announce it when it is ready. Thank you for your interest! _________________ I am a bird and I uncovered the E, EF and N-mount communication protocols! |

Nice work. Will be waiting for the finished product. When is the estimated date of completion? Hope you can keep the pricing affordable since the potential market is large. Another reason to convert those small Contax N 50 and Contax N 70-300 will finally have an IS body. This is great stuff. |

Tried a Contax N Planar 85/1.4 (already converted to Canon EF mount) today on our prototype adapter, and I can control its aperture from a Sony NEX camera body!
We are translating the electronic communication protocol from Contax N to Canon EF using the existing conurus chip, and then from Canon EF to Sony NEX using the new conurus microprocessor. Stacking 2 protocol translators like this is non-trivial, and we still some work to be done, but our initial results show that it is possible.
We have not made a decision whether to try making a direct Contax N to Sony NEX adapter. That is currently not in our product plan. We would like to do one thing at a time before deciding what to work on next.
Follow 'conurus' on Twitter to find latest updates on what I am working on.

Support an adapter from Canon to NEX is better as the N-lens can work in both newer bodies to continue its life and you can have one len on two bodies for 2 purpose: on a FF Canon x1 and on a NEX for 1.5x(with IS as well) . |

Thank you for your interest in this product!
There was no firmware work done over the last 2 months, because the firmware was basically done.
Instead, we have been working on mechanical design, miniaturization, circuit board layout, procuring components, design for manufacturability (DFM), etc. There has been a dearth of updates because I doubt if people are interested in the boring steps taken to bring a product from a prototype to the assembly line.
Thank you for your patience in this final phase of gestation. |
