Taken with an EOS 1Ds3, top one at 19mm, the rest at 17mm ...

Last week the 17-35 went flying out of my unzippered backpack as I flipped it on and landed on the filter & cap, which shattered the filter into shards. I figured that was it - the filter mount was bent and it won't come off after carefully clearing all the glass off.

But amazingly after trying a few test shots the lens focused, the zooming was smooth, everything worked and the images looked fine in Lightroom at 1:1. There are a couple of light smudges / scratches on the lens front glass which will undoubtedly make some difference in strong backlight, but I consider myself mighty lucky. Now if I can somehow get the bent filter ring off - the lens mount itself looks straight.

Simply stunning images! Thank you for sharing.

The first and last (fourth) speak the most to me. This makes me even more excited to receive my 17-35. Any tips to help make the wait easier? Smile

does anyone know if the 17-35 will vignette with a 95mm circular polarizer? specifically, i wonder about the B+W (non-slim) version.

the B+W polarizer is 8.3mm thick (excluding the rear threads) and 5mm thick from the front of the glass to the edge of the front threads.

i'm hopeful the vignetting will be non-existent...or at least minimal/manageable @ 17mm.

thank you!

I have regular heliopan CP and I don't see vigneting at 17mm.

thanks so much! i've got a B+W 95mm CP on the way. i debated heliopan vs B+W but have generally had good luck with B+W filters in the past and was able to get a multi-coated B+W for less than the heliopan. hope it's comparable.

great shot, by the way. thanks for sharing.
