PostPosted: Thu Jan 29, 2009 12:12 pm    Post subject: Help for my new N 24-85 on Canon 20D Reply with quote

I got a new N 24-85 modified from Conurus, and I put on my Canon 20D.
Originally it is very smoothly, but after I shoot around 20 pictures, the auto focus function seems something wrong. It could not focus. I try to power off, remove lens,... It doesn't work. Does it have reset function?

You probably have the aperture set on the wrong f-stop on the lens. It should be set on the minimum aperture (ie 16/22) for autofocus. Aperture for shooting purposes is set on the canon body like all canon lenses.
Give this a try. Very Happy

I Never Change The Aperture On The Lens. Setting The Lens To Minmum Aperture Gives You MF.
Set It Wide Open And Leave It, Unless You Want MF.... If That Does Not Work

Yoiu Might Try This Advice From Bo-Ming To Another Member....

Jon,

Thank you very much for your input!

It may not be the camera after all, but the lens - in which case, this trick is sometimes helpful:

Manually focus to infinity, and continue to turn past infinity for one turn.

Manually focus to 0.5m, and continue to turn beyond 0.5m for one turn.

This procedure would help if the lubricant in the lens has dried up and cause the AF to stop working.

Don't know what other people's experience has been, but the more I used the 24-85, the better the AF worked.

Probably most of these lenses were sitting around doing nothing for quite some time before they were converted.

It's neat that Bo-Ming has developed the technology to resurrect a great piece of photographic equipment. These fine lenses are now going to have a long and productive new life in the hands of those fortunate enough to get one.

(Hate to sound like a broken record, but if you like the 24-85, you will be doing back flips over the 100 Makro and 17-35).

If you would let me know the serial number of the lens by PM, that would be great. Thanks!

Hi! I try all way what I could, but it still don't work. The lens S/N is 12709903. Is it the 20D issue? I just have one EOS camera, so I couldn't try it on another body. It is work when I mount another Canon lens on 20D.

Hi Thanks! I use the following procedure and resolve the problem.

Manually focus to infinity, and continue to turn past infinity for one turn.

Hi Bo-Ming,

I have sent two messages to you recently.

However, I found that those messages keep staying inside the outbox instead of the sentbox.

Does this mean that the reciever can not see them until they are moved into the sentbox?

Thanks,
Frank

Recently I have received a large number of enquiries and I apologize for not getting to your messages soon enough. They stay in your outbox until I check my PM. In reality I never check my PM but route all of them to my email. In any case I will attend to your enquires very shortly.

Thanks Bo-Ming.

One of the my message is regarding to my converted 24-85 lens.

The lens stopped auto-focusing. Only doing the MF all the times no matter what the aperture ring I set.

Do you have any clue about this? Anything I can do for the resetting to make the AF work again?

Thanks,
Frank

Frank,

Your 24-85 is covered by our 1-year ultrasonic motor warranty. We will replace the ultrasonic motor of your lens free of charge. (That is even though our lens mount conversion has nothing to do with it.) However, if there is a more serious issue such as an internal mechanical problem, it would not be covered but referred to Contax Japan. Please send your lens back to us using our address label

http://en.conurus.com/coneos_address.pdf

and we will work on it. Thanks!

Please try this procedure before you return your lens to us.

Hi Bo-Ming,

Sorry for my delayed reply for your suggestion as I was away for the whole weekend and was able try the method last night.

Yes, I have tried to read your method and not quit sure what is the meaning of "one turn", is it one scale of the ring, or one whole circle?

I have tried the either way and the lens still not doing the AF.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Frank
