Maybe It's A Spec Tolerance Issue...
+ Or - Is Within Specifications...
It May Be Worth Your While To Have The 1Ds, Cleaned (Only Because It's There) & Adjusted.
The Communication Between Lens & Body Should Not Create This Issue...

But Again, This Is Just A Guess, Abet, A Semi-Educated One...

If you check the first post in this thread, I stated the issue is only with this lens, so the camera itself is operating correctly. I have also noticed that when I select AF points one point away from center, it focuses a bit better, but when I select AF points farther away and all the way out to the edges, the lens hunts in and out and has trouble finding any focus at all. Again, this is why I believe it is a legacy camera issue as the original Conurus conversions was developed with newer bodies, and the 1Ds body was not supported until recently based on the posts I have read here. I'm guessing that the fix for 1Ds compatibility is a bit different that what it was believed to be. It would be great if some additional development went into support for this camera as there are many 1Ds cameras in the marketplace.

We Will Soon Know, My 100 Is Being Converted Now...
And I Will Be Using It On A 1Ds, 1D, And A 1D MkIIn ...
Old, Older, And Newer...

Thanks John Luke

I will do a test between my 1D (mk I) and some newer camera (e.g. XT or XTi) with a MS100 this weekend.

It turns out to be the other way around: very accurate at macro distances (see pic) but not accurate at non-macro distances.

I will try to figure out a way to apply different adjustments based on focusing distance - please give me some more time to fix it.

My findings as well. At close up, perhaps 4 or 5 inches, maybe a barely detectable front focus, maybe an 1/16 in close or so. But at 18 feet, it focuses at 15 feet.

BTW, I used it in studio in manual focus mode for some product work. I thought my Canon 90TSE was a good product lens until now. Man- this Contax 100 Makro produces eyeball scorching sharpness. It's unreal how much better it is than my Canon TSE. I actually have to turn down the sharpening in the Phase One Capture One RAW processor.

Yes. I have always thought that the Makro Sonnar is the crown jewel of the N series, although for most people, it is the 17-35 getting that title.

I finished writing a new version of the firmware to address the issue. I am testing it to make sure it works for all focusing distances. Sorry for John R but your MS100 will take slightly longer than usual because I have not finished with the new firmware testing.

This is a recommended fix for all existing customers with modified MS100. Please ship it back to me for firmware update and declare it as "repair under warranty".

I Got My 100mm f2.8 Back Today. It Took A Little While Longer Because Bo-Ming Addressed John Luke's Issues And Did A Major Up-Grade....
I Am Happy To Say It Is Great. Just A Test Run And Ya'll Will Have To Bear With My Subjects, I Live In Texas After All, lol... But I Am "Very" Happy.

Straight From The Camera....

Full Framed Sized For The Web (72dpi) And Center Cropped Sized For The Web (72dpi) At f2.8 And f8

Full @ f2.8

Center @ f2.8 (You Can Count The Strands In The Braided Wire)

Full @ f8

Center A f8

I Got Interested In The Contax Converted Lenses Because Of The 100mm f2.8 & The 17-35mm f2.8
They Have Lived Up To Every Expectation And More....
Thanks Bo-Ming.....

John- Thanks for demonstrating the Makro. My Makro and 17~35 are at Conurus right now and I can't wait to get them back and in use. I just picked up a new-in-box 24~85 also (that one comes with a hood in the box fortunately Laughing )

The 24-85 Hoods Are EASY To Find, And Not As Expensive As The GB-103s.... lol
Curious About The Pouch/Case That Came With Your Lens. The Bottom Foam, Is It Thick?
Does It Have A Hole Cut For The Mount (Circle In Center), Or Is It Just Flat?
Is There Much Room Around The Body Or Is It Fairly Snug? Number WCL1 ?
I Think Mine Is Not Complete... But You Tell Me.

My 24-85 Ships Tomorrow.

One Last One For The 100mm .... You Will Be Happy When It Get It Back. It Is Bowie Knife Sharp!!!

1Ds (Like Them All) @ f8 - 1/400 - Iso100

Railroad Signal South Of Town...

New in box 24~85's come with the hood included. (whew!) It is a petal hood, plastic. The pouch bottom is foam, no cut-out. That is because the lens is designed to be stored with the hood inverted (like a Canon lens) and when done so, the lens + hood fills the enitre bottom of the pouch when inserted upside down. (At least I think that is how it is done.) No item number on the pouch bottom.

Did Not Even Think Of That!!
Case Number Is Beside The Contax Logo On Front....
But Now The Roomyness (I Think That's A Word) Is Understandable.....

Thanks!
