All Hail Conurus. Protocol Masters of the World! Amazing Job.

I'm very pleased that it all got turned round so smoothly.

I can report that the converted N 28-80 works perfect on a 500D; full functionality!

Once gain thanks.

Given that it's only a 28-80 on a 1.6 crop camera, It's obvious I'm a novice, but having used manual Zeiss glass and Canon L glass before, I had no choice but to get a Zeiss Lens; comparable image quality at a far better price.

Question: is the aperture ring redundant now?

The aperture ring of your 28-80 is not used at all during normal shooting. However, you may use it to control the aperture in movie capture.
