I am anxiously awaiting for my 100mm makro to be returned from conversion. While I wait I was wondering if anyone has used a tripod collar for this lens. Do you think that it is necessary? It is a pretty heavy lens.

thanks for the input
Mark

I saw no one answered this one. I've seen a single photo of this lens with a tripod collar (ring) on the lens, but I have never heard mention of it elsewhere, nor seen it for sale. Is there another tripod collar, meant for another lens, that fits this 100 N, or does the 100 N have a dedicated tripod ring?

I don't find a collar is needed. With a good tripod set up it will work fine. I do strongly recommend the Canon 24EX Twin macro flash (you'll need the step up ring adapter with it). The AF is not needed for macro work. Not sure why they even put it on that lens. Bottom line: it's a superb lens.

That's a beautiful composition Doc.

I like to use live view to focus along with a tripod, and the collars are nice to change from landscape to portrait with ease on the tripod.
