Just coming back from Hokkaido. I brought 17-35, 24-85, 70-300 and N400 (yes, I am still waiting for the conversion of this lens) with me.
You may visit

Most of the pics in the folder Hokkaido_crane are taken by N400.
Happy Chinese New Year,

I'm seriously considering purchasing a 400 Contax N for upcoming conversion. Has anyone on this thread had any first hand experience with this lens. If so, some of your thoughts and recommendations or criticisms appreciated.
Thanks.

We made just one and only one mount for TAT400/4. Of course we will make more mounts and they will be available in early 2009. I will try to make some time fine tuning the AF this weekend and hopefully do some test shots. I will report more of my findings here.

How many ways can one say "awesome!"
If you will, when you have time please post some images taken with the conversion. I am sure that will push me over the line to go and aquire a 400 for conversion.
Good day to all.

How fast is the AF? Fast enough for futbol? How sharp? Worth the wait?

For the ultimate in AF speed, you are advised to use a Canon USM lens. But I guess the real question is whether the Tele-Apotessar 400/4 is "fast enough".
It is in fact snappy and responsive for most kinds of action. However, it takes a couple of seconds to complete a full hunt. In broad daylight it makes no difference, but in a low light situation, and if your camera has a custom function to turn off hunting, please set it to off.
The reason is that the AF has a lot of throw to travel from 10m to 2.9m, but the close range is not required for a lot of sports and wildlife. This lens could really use a focusing range selector, but unfortunately it has got none. (Maybe I should implement one in software?)
I am very busy these days filling orders but I really wish to get out to do some birdding with this lens. If I can sucessfully do so, it would kind of prove that the AF is fast enough.

If you could implement a focus range selector that would be wonderful; sent you my 400 and the remaining lenses yet to be converted yesterday. Thanks

Do post some samples when you get your 400 back from conversion. I have a 24-85 just in the queue now and am testing out a 21mm Distagon with a Haoda converter on a trip this week. I may become a complete Zeiss addict, instead of just experimenting...

Just received my N400 from conversion. Had little time to do some first pics, only at rather short distance, but performance looks excellent from f4 on.
