Hi,
if i shoot at 24mm on an item about 3m away its not sharp.
if i refocus it with my split screen in my 5D by hand its nice.
but not with AF
as far as i can see its sharp at about 28 to 85mm.

any ideas?

regards
reinhard

First, narrow down whether it is an optical problem or an AF accuracy problem. From your description it sounds like manual focus is fine? It is an AF accuracy problem, then.

Enter the serial number of your lens here

There has been AF accuracy improvements over the years and the lens may be in need of a firmware update. Using the AF microadjustment feature of the lens would work, too.

When testing for AF accuracy, test at various different distances, including infinity.

Hi,
thx for fast reply.
Lens 24-85 Firmware 3.16h

I did an Entire focus correction by +14, and it looks sharp. great!

But infinity at 85mm is still poor.

For zoom lenses, you may set a different set of adjustment values for 3 to 5 different focal lengths, ...
where do i do this?
do meant to set 85mm at the lens before AF adjustment to adjust the longest focus range?

Yes, the 24-85's AF microadjustment can be configured at 4 different focal lengths. 24, 35, 50 and 85. (Doesn't need to be exact. All adjacent focal lengths are affected.)
