I have a 100/2.8 N and the GB 77 hood right here in front me, and there is no way this hood will attach to this lens. The metal portion of the hood is a smaller diameter the lens, so there is no way for the tabs on the lens to fit inside the hood and make contact with the tab holders.

I know the Contax website say GB-77, but something is clearly wrong. Either this hood was stamped incorrectly, or the Contax website has the wrong specs. I think the 100/2.8 N needs the GB-73 hood, not the 77. This image shows the hood resting top the lens, it simply won't fit over the lens. And if even if it did, then the tab wouldn't fit through anyway. Clearly this isn't the right hood for lens, so what is?

GB-77 is for the 70-200/3.5-4.5. There is no way it's gonna fit the 100/2.8 Makro.

And yes, GB-73 is the correct hood for the Makro. For a list of hoods and cases, please refer to http://en.conurus.com/faq.html#compatibility

I've been trying to figure this out, and either the USA website simply published the wrong specs:

http://www.contaxusa.com/lensdetail.asp?brandid=&parent=141000

Or, there are two versions of the 100/2.8 N. This brochure shows 72mm and states the GB-73 is the correct hood:

http://www.contaxusa.com/docs/141000_brochure01.pdf

Long story short - if your 100/2.8 N has a 67mm front thread (assuming this version really exists), then you'll need a GB-77 hood. If the filter thread is 72mm, then it's the GB-73 hood.

Anybody need a GB-77? Smile

All Makro-Sonnars have 72mm filter threads. They were not produced in large quantities and it wasn't economically viable to produce 2 versions.

How much would you like to sell your GB-77 for? FS posts are welcome right here although WTB's are not permitted. (We have too many people WTB but too few items FS.)

Well, somebody goofed up at Contax because even press releases stated GB-77. Water under the bridge now...

Looking at Ebay prices, GB-77's range from $60 to $250. That helps, doesn't it Wink... The hood is in perfect condition -

If you're personally interested, then lets work a deal off of the conversion price (we'll do that in a PM or Email). Or, if you're asking as a public service for others, I'd rather do a straight trade for the GB-73

Erm! I have a GB 75 that came with the 70-300 and it fits both the 70-300 and the Makro.

Welcome to the club. Maybe we can do a class action suit against Contax NA. I also got suckered into buying a GB-77 for my 100. What a bunch of irresponsible dolts they are, I mean, were ...

the 67mm comes from the planar t* 100/2

http://www.contaxusa.com/lensdetail.asp?brandid=&parent=123000

so are we sure it is 72mm and the right hood is the GB-73

would any of the old metal hoods work?

I just bought the 100mm on ebay is it too late to get it converted this year?

I was using the Contax Metal Hood No. 1 with the Contax 72/86 Ring on the Makro Sonnar 100/2.8-N before I found the bayonet hood.

That same Contax No.1 Metal Hood in conjunction with the Contax Ring 82/86 will work with the Planar 85/1.4-N also. I've also a 67/86 ring.

I have all of these mentioned rings and hood for sale.
