the bayonet hood for the 100mm macro is the GB-73. I have found some but really don't feel like paying $150 for one. I have metal hoods from my c/y lens collection that i could use instead. I have a 72-86 ring adapter and I have metal hoods 1, 4 and 5. My question is which of the three above mentioned hoods is closest to the size of the GB-73?

I have tried to find the specs of the GB-73 on the net but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Mark

I do the same and use a #4; seems small but I don't have a #5.

I used to use my Contax Metal Hood No.4 and the Contax 72^86 ring, and with that lens's recessed front element, it was fine.

BTW, I have those Contax hood/rings and others for sale as well:

Contax Metal Hood No.4
Contax Ring 67^86
Contax Ring 72^86
Contax Ring 82^86

My GB-75 (for 70-300) measures 65mm deep x 95mm diameter.

The GB-73 couldn't be the exact same size, I suppose? Or they could have told you to use the same hood.

Perhaps a slight difference in the bayonet mount between the two?

My GB-75 fits the Makro-Sonnar 2,8/100 and Vario-Sonnar 4-5,6/70-300.

The bayonet fits also the 2/80 Planar for 645, although the hood is intended for telephoto and will work in this combination only if you are using the NAM-1 adapter.

thank you all for the information. it does seem strange that the gb-73 and gb-75 are the same size. what i find more strange is the amount the hoods sell for. i think i will try my old 72-86 ring with the hood #5 once i get my 100mm back.

thank you again

I have both a GB-73 and GB-75. They are not exactly the same size, but one has to look closely to see the difference. The GB-73 is only about 2 or 3mm longer.

The GB-73 has a very slightly smaller diameter, too. But on the whole you will have to put them side by side to note any difference.
