I'd be happy to publicise some N lens tests over in the 16:9 Lens Test Archive where we already have the Nikon 17-35mm, Leica 21-35mm, and a whole menagerie of crazy adapted optics tested on Canon full frame bodies. The one we're most interested in is naturally the 17-35mm, and have a donor N 17-35mm f2.8 standing by . . . can you advise when the conversion kit will be available?

The preliminary schedule is as follows:
9/2006 = 70-300 and 85/1.4
10/2006 = 28-80 and 70-200
11/2006 = 17-35/2.8
12/2006 = 50/1.4
1/2007 = 400/4
However, expect dates to move around quite a bit.

Thanks!

When did you get a copy of the VS 17-35? I didn't know that you had one.

Well... I have all the 9 N-mount lenses, 2 copies in many cases, to ensure any success is not a fluke.

I haven't got all the 645 lenses yet, but I am in the process of stocking up.

I was actually asking hubsand. You? I assumed you had everything otherwise you couldn't be doing what you're doing.

I would like to get my hands on a the 400/f4.0 to see what it's like. Contax/Kyocera when they existed the business had alot of the N lenses at special prices. They were taking order for the 400/f4.0 at B&H and Adorama for around $1450, but I don't know anyone that actually got one. TRhe orders people that I know placed never amonted to anything.

Like I said, I have a donor 17-35N standing by . . .

It seems that the most problematic area of the conversion lies with the electronics, but I know that most potential 17-35mm users would find autofocus irrelevant, and most would live with stop-down metering in an all-manual conversion if the optics were worthy. I'd definitely consider this as a possibility, especially if the schedule drifts because of technical problems.

The aperture blades are electronically controlled. There is no known way to stop down other than by sending the lens the proper command.

I would ask/beg your favour of not pushing me too hard. I understand the importance of your endeavour but I am only a one-man company running by the night while still keeping a day time job. Please allow me some room. Thanks! I really don't have 17-35 for you now but when it is ready you sure will be one of the first to get it.

Sorry but we are slipping. The schedule now looks like:

11/2006 = 17-35/2.8
12/2006 = 50/1.4
1/2007 = 400/4, 28-80, 70-200 and 70-300

Is there the schedule of 645-to-Eos?

I am in the process of aquiring ay least one 17-35mm. I am willing to ship them or fly to Vancouver (loads of airline points!) to facilitate this conversion. Please let me know if this is an option, and I will email you privately. I have a 1Ds2 for testing as well.

regards

Andy

If you happen to be in town, we sure have to meet! I will show you some exciting new toys, such as the prototype 17-35 and the prototype C645 adapter - you will be able to see how they handle and do some tests on your 1Ds mkII. But where are you coming from? A lot of airline points sounds very far away!

I am in London, Ont, so its no biggie to fly out to Vancouver. I have some free time between the 16th-20th of Oct, let me know if any of these dates work. I am in Hong Kong the following week, so I'll be picking up a 17-35 then.

Andy

Yep, any weeknight in the week of 16th to 20th would be fine for me.

Is it possible that you stop by Vancouver after your Hong Kong trip instead of before? We might be able to install on your 17-35 right away. (I could not make any guarantees yet because it depends on whether the CNC machined parts arrive on schedule.)

I can stop by after the Hong Kong, it would probably be in the first week of November. Doing an install on a 17-35 would be awesome! I could test it and easily provide Full Frame samples af the lenses that yuo have converted. I'll bring a 21mm Zeiss for comparison.

my email is admin@planetwidephoto.com If you would like to email me your phone number, I'll give you a call.

Cheers

Andy

Is 17-35/2.8 adaptor available this month?
