I just received an 85mm f1.4 Contax N and my auto focus shifts back and forth continuously in a jerky fashion anytime the N1 shutter button is depressed partway. I am preparing to send this to Bo-ming -- should it go to Japan for service first? The lens looks mint???
I bought it off ebay and have sent an email -- but I do want the lens.
Bo-ming, DJ, et al any thoughts.

As an update the very nice and concerned ebay seller emailed me immediately--incredible service I must say.
However I really want to solve the problem on this lens.

Hi Jack,

Sorry you called me by phone yesterday but I was in the middle of something.

If on a N1 it can hunt continuously from infinity to 0.83m then it is not a problem. On a Canon the same lens will hunt/jerk less than on a Contax N1.

But if it just jerks a little bit, but you can't get it to hunt one full cycle, then I would suggest sending it back to Contax Japan for service. We may be able to service the 17-35, 24-85 and 70-300 but not the 85/1.4.

Bo-ming,
While it will hunt full cycle, as well as large and small partial cycles, it will not come to correct focus or really anything close.
