Finally , i got my 5D3 last week and surprisingly, both Contax 85/1.4 and 17-35/2.8 work fine with AF and MF modes! I just wonder if Bo-Ming has studied the new AF modules on 5D3 and will have a new version on our lens? ( i have not tested all Group A to H )

I am getting a report of poor AF performance with the 5D mark III. So far I have received only one report but I would like to get a second opinion. So Franklin you have experienced no difficulties at all with your 85/1.4 and 17-35/2.8?

Hmmm, I posted in another thread here. Tested my 50 1.4 last night and my AF is great! I don't use AI focus. I use either One Shot or Al Servo. My feeling was it performed better than on my 5D II. Firmware is not the latest so I will report back on that info. On my 5DII I had to microadjust to +17. On my new 5DIII had to microadjust to +14 for the 50 1.4 to nail focus. So that tells me the lens is a touch out and not the bodies?? Anyway, I will test my 100 Makro soonest and report back.

Mike

Update. 50 1.4 firmware is 3.04f

Upgraded my 5dIII to the latest firmware last night. Unfortunately my 24-85 is now suffering no Autofocus beyond 65mm.

As you have pointed out, 5D3 (and 1DX) will enable the cross-type sensors according to the lenses groups which are not just classified by aperture (many f/2.8 Canon lenses are not group A). I expected it depends on the lens code passed to the body from the lens.

I wonder what lenses group will converted N lenses fall on? I expected that is a question for all "3rd party" lenses even including the ZE mount Carl Zeiss lenses. If N lenses are group H (only centre single cross enabled), I think using it on 5D3 will not be much better than on 5D2/6D?
