conurus celebrates first anniversary of first customer shipment and announces new ultrasonic motor warranty
--
August 18 is a day to remember. It was on this day, last year, that the world's first and as of today still the only independent lens mount conversion was shipped to the first customer.
The birth of probably the world's largest online community dedicated to the Contax N-mount occurred 4 days earlier.
Today, last year, nobody believed this was real. Since then, there has been numerous stories of people stunned by seeing these lenses in action.
The success is hard won. Every unit is put together by hand and installed by hand onto the lens. Each installation involves many measurements to ensure the optics sit at the same place as they originally would on a N-mount body. Hours of work go into every installation, and years of work go into the protocol translation firmware, the soul of the microcontroller chip making all this possible.
To celebrate our first anniversary, effective today, we offer a new ultrasonic motor replacement service for Vario-Sonnar 17-35, 24-85 and 70-300. If you order a conversion service on one of these lenses, we guarantee the ultrasonic motor for one year. If you are already my customer, you also get a one year warranty, starting from today. It is highly unusual to offer a warranty on something we did not make, but I occasionally hear concerns from potential customers on how to service these lenses.
[2010 update: we are adding the ultrasonic motor of Planar 50/1.4 and the DC motor of Vario-Sonnar 28-80 to the list.]
[2013 update: due to parts shortage, the autofocus motor warranty program will terminate on 2013/3/31. All new orders arriving after that date shall be warranted only for parts we add to the lens (e.g. the conurus circuit board), but not for any original parts of the lens itself.]
We are not an authorized repair facility and Contax does not endorse this repair. Any repair which requires more than just a motor replacement will be referred to Contax Japan. (e.g. Problem with focusing helicoil or electronic circuitry, although these are rare.) Also, we are not able to service the Makro-Sonnar 2,8/100 or the Planar 1,4/85. Shipping not included.
As always, the optical elements are not disassembled but stay in place during the procedure. N-series lenses are constructed with separate optical and electronic assemblies which can be independently serviced without affecting each other.

Oh, sure, NOW you start? .
Do you now have the motors in stock? Let me know. I have a trip early Sept so it probably won't be enough time now, but maybe after?
